Dr. Ascanio Peguero serves as the director and founder of the Center for Practical Neurotheology in the Fort Worth area since 2014. Dr. Peguero is a native of the Dominican Republic. He completed his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Domingo in 1978. Dr. Peguero served in the Dominican Republic Army as brigade surgeon for the Southwestern Region before moving to the United States. Dr. Peguero served in the United States Army and came out in 1991 just right after Dessert Storm. Dr. Peguero holds an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Seminary (1996). He served as Baptist Missionary in Thailand for 8 years (1996-2004) doing community development.
He is board certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplain since 2008. Dr. Peguero served for more than 10 years as a Chaplain with Baylor Scott and White Fort Worth in the area of Oncology and Palliative Care. During his time at Baylor, he developed a Spiritual Assessment tool for the Palliative Care patients. Dr. Peguero holds a D.PSc. (2014) and he is licensed by the Pastoral Medical Association. Dr. Peguero is working at this moment on a project linking the results of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Moral Distress.
